I don't know...but would a limited edition of "anything" be a money spinner???Ok it would be willingly snapped up by the target market(i.e. Us)...but would the production costs be covered by the sales??(no doubt there will be cries of "We don't mind paying over the odds for it!")

Don't get me wrong if such a venture ever did come to fruition...I'd be first in the queue with my gruel bowl outstretched asking for more!!

If its going to be a Christmas release why not
a couple of Festive Covers similar to " Little Drummer Boy"
which requires no composing just a Version and 2 or 3 Idea
Songs that were Shelved for reasons best known to R&R

And if financial constraints were a factor in producing a CD, a digital image of the disk could be produced to be "DIY" burned at home, bypassing the cost issue......like a lot of software is these days.

Then there are the people without burners, and can`t/won`t ...I know, I was just saying

I wouldn't mind paying to download it and then burning it myself onto disc just to keep production costs down. I would do anything necessary to get my hands on those future gems!!

By not releasing old rare stuff they prove that they are very cool & would never sell out,.......why have a back catalogue that no-one ever hears???, and if ron and russ were multi millionaires I also would understand...but i think they said " i think we would call ourselves hundred dollararies "........so why miss the opputunity of making dosh from they hard work !!!!!! YOU KNOW THIS MAKES SENSE !!!!!!lol

Reading over my posts..I realise Ive been the harbinger of doom and gloom regarding any(hoped for) release, just being practical...but I can't figure out how making the back catalogue (officially) available,by drip release once a year,is "selling out"...Selling out implies doing something for a vast profit and betraying a memory or promise...I think(correct me if I'm wrong,Bryan) what is being asked for is more along philanthropical lines.

And archival purposes.....why have stuff lying around gathering dust, when they could potentially be given a new lease of life......

There`s always the possibility they wouldn`t want their old stuff out and about in case in "interferes" with the new train of musical thought and clouds listeners judgement of the new stuff....not wanting to go backwards in other words.

Point is, are we ever going to get to hear them....5 years....20 years...when they inevitably pass away....or maybe never...what`s the point in that ?

Just seems like a waste to me, even if they, for some reason, think it`s not of such a standard as what they are doing now, but that would have no effect on real followers views.

I`m rambling.....goodbye :-)

No, I haven`t finished....

there`s also the possibility that they may think people may like the older stuff more than the new....not that it should matter really.....

I`ve played the Halfnelsons WAY more than I ever did Lil` B....

Please not for many many many.......years yet. I can't bear the thought of it.

But EF is right about the unlistened to music. This needs an airing and who better to give it such than us. Better than leaving it in one of Ron's cupboards gathering dust for evermore :-)

Don`t panic Cali ! I`m sure there`s a good 30-40 years left in them yet :-)

I was just using that really as an example....but the point is valid...

maybe we`ll have to wait 50 years beyond that or whatever it is until the copyrights expire ;-)

Just seems a bit of a waste and a bit frustrating too to know that a lot of stuff isn`t being admired & adored.....just sat there singing themselves.

(Please no-one pull me up on legal law...I merely guessed ;-)

i think sparks will go until they are unable to make quality music. the rolling stones are still going, despite their lack of good material. it probably depends on Russells vocals. i can't see why ron wont be sitting behind that keyboard when he's 80!

unless he has crippling arthritis

They are so fit though and really look after themselves so they could possibly keep going for another 20+ years. They will probably outlive some of us with no so good lifestyles :-))

Anyway, we need to hear this music NOW!!
