Not only is 'Pineapple' a great song but there is a TV show 'Psych' that likes showing a cameo appearance by a pineapple in most episodes.

It is tough not to have the song go through my head when watching this show.

Never seen this show, why a pineapple in most episodes?

I didn't know how it started but I googled around and found this. Fun story.

"The most iconic figure in the world of Psych is without a doubt the pineapple. This age old tradition was started with a moment of improv by James Roday's character, Shawn Spencer. During the pilot episode of the first season, Gus and Shawn are arguing about their first case in Gus's apartment when Gus reluctantly gives in to going along for a ride to a potential crime scene, Shawn spots a pineapple on the top of the fridge and asks "Should I slice this up for the road?" and hence the tradition was started. Now in (almost) every episode, the writers and producers sneak in a pineapple somewhere into the set. The locations of the pineapples are sometimes rudimentary, and sometimes devious and very hard to spot. Finding them every week is entertainment in itself".

Never watched the show (obviously), but very neat (and little weird, but good)! Thanks!!

Yes they certainly were deadcalm. Fave band as a kid and still play their records.Sweet Fanny Adams is as far removed from bubblegum as you could get.Brian would have had a lot more help and support with his drinking these days.It was such a shame he went off the rails.

My view from the US is that Glam in the UK encompassed allot of different elements. Everything from proto metal, pre-punk and even bubblegum.

US Glam (Iggy, NY Dolls, Alice) was not as diversified.

Great history of glam that should be required reading for younger music fans.

I heard Brian Connolly was injured in a Street Attack in 74 and his throat was in some way affected . It was kept quiet back then, he lost some of his range. The start of the slippery slope. Hugely under rated. You can tell Queen and more than few others were influenced by them. The Last album with "Love is like Oxygen" on it is not half bad, a change in direction.

Jean-Michel Jarre - 'Equinoxe Infinity'.

Re-imagining his brilliant 4th album from '78 'Equinoxe'.

Meant to post this a few days ago, but since we are still in the Christmas season and I reckon it's worth hearing, here it is.
Cannot work out all the lyrics but it certainly creates a stark change of mood which resonates, penetrates me.

Incidentally, Polly Preacher is currently collaborating with a really likeable musician from Sparks fandom.

Artist: Joe Jackson
Title: Fool
Released: 1/18/19

I admittedly have not followed Joe's career very closely but I still consider some his early material to be top shelf.

The latest release has eight tracks and several recall some of Joe's early energy. "Fabulously Absolute" checks all the boxes if you like up tempo angst and is easily my early favorite.

"Big Black Smoke" is an epic storybook that comes in at just over six minutes. All the musical changes keep it interesting and begs a second listen. I'll probably take the time to check out the lyrics. It might be a great story!

The song "Dave" has a little something that reminds me of "Steppin' Out". Allot of Joe's music has a jazz feel that makes it instantly recognizable. That being instantly recognizable also means there is a sameness. In this case it is a sameness to the music from Joe's early career which is probably great for fans of that era that weren't crazy about his later experimentations.

The best of the remaining five tracks is "Friend Better" which actually sounds like Steely Dan. The worst tracks are "Strange Land" and the album closer, "Alchemy". Simply unlistenable for me!

I was never really a Joe Jackson fan, I own "Look Sharp" and it still gets a listen or two a year. There has always been something about jazz arrangements that I'm not comfortable with, this release reinforces that!

That said, it deserves a listen. Enjoy!

Artist: The Specials
Title: The Encore
Released: February 1, 2019

One of the nice things about Spotify is being able to listen to new releases while only investing time, not money. Just another example of technology being used for good and not eeevil.

I have to admit, I am woefully under educated when it comes to many bands and The Specials are one of them. A little quick research tells me that they never charted in the U.S. but had seven top ten hits in the U.K. between 1979 and 1981.

I’m not a hardcore reggae/ska guy especially when there are political agendas. However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with island music and drinks with umbrellas peeking out. The Specials are not a Jamaican party band and many of the songs cover social problems. However, there is something instantly likeable about “The Encore”.

One thing I like is that there are only 10 songs and total time is under 40 minutes. I appreciate when a band has the sense to not release every single song recorded.

My early favorite is “Breaking Point” which has an oompah sound but there are plenty of strong tracks. Others worth hearing are “The Lunatics” and “Blam Blam Fever” but I have to say that nearly all the songs have a decent hook.

This release is good enough that I’m not going to forget who The Specials are and I look forward to checking out their back catalogue.

Well done!

On Netflix. I'm told there is an episode with "Angst In My Pants".

The guy in the beginning of that video (Edward Herrmann) was the head vampire in "Lost Boys" which is the greatest vampire movie ever.

Lost Boys is a total '80's classic that I will always love! Sad to see that he died back in 2014, he was in so many things I remember!!
