Black Rainbows, the second album this year by Brett Anderson. Bit of a return to form, with some muscular pop tunes, and lyrics inside. A nice contrast to the more experimentally folkish but equally worthy predecessor, and still as broody, moody and melancholic. I thought Sparks were fairly unique in bringing out two impressive albums in the space of a year. Is there no end to this man's talent? |

Shirley Bassey singing the theme tune to Moonraker. Not as good as her two previous, more celebrated Bond classics. But, its a fantastic vocal performance, and composed by the late great John Barry, it remains better than just about every Bond theme that's followed in the last thirty years. Don't raise an eyebrow that I'm rating it 9/10. |

Bruno Mars - Marry You. Best bit of bubblegum around, so 7/10.
Would've put up the link to the "official video" but there are umpteen different clips claiming to be it. Its not the first time either I've on Youtube, feeling four score years of bewilderment, trying to determine what's the official video for a song among several totally different clips labelled as such. |

Thanks Peter! I'll watch Friday's show, and let my mate know too. We saw Brett play Edinburgh Corn Exchange with a latter version of Suede and they rocked! Brett was amazingly athletic bounding about the stage, really putting his back into powerful vocals - completely in contrast to the effete image that Suede were launched with.... a bit reminiscent of Russell! |

"Grave Dancers Union" by Soul Asylum. Kind of a David Lynch road movie of an album. Still think the band who played the local club did the best version of "Runaway Train", though. A very good 8/10. |
